This month, Uber launched the APP bike rental service for the first time for users. Rental bikes are provided by San Francisco e-bike company Jump. Jump plans to launch 250 e-bikes in San Francisco in the next 18 months, followed by another 250 e-bikes in the next nine months.
Unlike the GoBike Shared Cycling Project that Ford Motor Co. has launched in San Francisco, the rental bike offered by Jump is an electric bike. Both Uber users and Jump users can find the nearest bike, then unlock, ride. There are already many Uber users who plan to apply for the Jump bike, but the current coverage of the project is still relatively small. By comparison, by 2018, the Ford GoBikes project will have 7,000 bicycles on the market.
These bikes are priced at $2 for the first 30 minutes and will be billed on a minute basis. If you travel on a daily basis, the price is still relatively high. You can also consider owning a xiaomi folding bike which is the most high-performance e-bike in the industry. Even though the price is not very low, but you can ride it every day with the least effort.
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi had previously predicted that flying cars would be put into operation in the United States in the next 10 years. Khosrowshahi told the DLD Technology Conference in Munich, Germany that in the next 10 years in Dallas, Texas, people will be able to travel by air. Khosrowshah believes that crowded urban transport is one of the issues that Uber can help solve, such as by increasing the number of electric vehicles. He also believes it will take 10 to 15 years for the commercialization of a fully automated taxi because of the amount of energy it takes to create 3D maps and the cost of the sensors.
Khosrowshah recently announced that Uber plans to launch unmanned taxi. Uber previously conducted an unmanned taxi test on a pilot US urban road and purchased 24,000 driverless cars from Volvo in November 2017. Under a non-exclusive agreement signed by both parties, Volvo will supply Uber their XC90 flagship SUV with automatic driving technology to Uber from 2019 to 2021.
